Non-Absorbable Sutures are Polypropylene, Silk, and Nylon. Polypropylene is a polyolefin material (plastic material), blue in color (so it’s easy to see because the sutures themselves are extremely thin), that is extremely smooth (not braided) and hence will not stick to the tissue while being placed or removed. Silk is braided to increase tensile strength and is died black. Silk is the easiest material to lay a knot with because it is so smooth.
